Hi, I am Elizabeth Faubert.
Thank you for visiting this site and I truly hope you enjoyed looking at the Literary Animal. No animals were harmed in the making of these photos, (maybe bribed a little!).
I have been making photos since I could hold a camera. Always encouraged by my Mom and forever saving pennies to buy film and photo paper. I use two identical Minolta camera bodies, the X370 model, that I have had in my possession for about 22 years. All the photos in this series were made with those cameras and a 35-70 zoom lens. I mostly use high speed film (the animals are fast!). I do not use flash or set up artificial lighting, there is no studio. I do not use automatic film advance, so every time I advance the film I have to take the camera away from my face; this makes the process more challenging, and for me, more intuitive. None of the animals in this series are trained. They are either pets of friends, which includes neighbors and co-workers, who very generously allowed me to spend time with their animals; or animals just out there in the world doing their thing who couldn't help getting interested in a good book. To be watching these animals, observing their behaviors, seeing their perfect instinctual nature, has been a great education for me. I am fascinated by this work and am thrilled to combine so many of my loves together in these images: books, animals and humor.
Please feel free to contact me by e-mail or phone anytime. I would love to hear what you think and which images are your favorites.
